Clara Lara Fun Park

Have a go on the breathtaking Aqua Shuttle, the biggest slide in Ireland and then go boating, canoeing or rafting on five acres of shallow ponds and lakes. This park is only 5 minutes drive from Glendale!


Walking

What better way to explore the scenic splendor of Wicklow than on foot. Wicklow provides the visitors with 1,250 sq miles of really beautiful nature to explore. The routes in Wicklow are still generally unspoiled and uncrowded, so that it is a pleasure to meet and chat to other walkers in a splendid landscape. Glendale, being in the heart of the Wicklow mountains, beside Wicklow National Park is ideal for walking, and maps can be provided for the novice walker - as well as for the experienced ones.


Avondale House and Forest Park

Avondale house is set in an estate of 500 acres of forest and parkland along the banks of the Ardmore river. In 1846, Charles Stewart Parnell, one of the greatest political leaders of modern Irish history, was born in Avondale. The house is now a museum to his memory. The forest park contains miles of woodland paths and offers endless variety to the walker. Avondale is a ten minute drive from 'Glendale'.


Powerscourt Gardens

One of the worlds great gardens situated in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains. The word garden belies the magnitude of this creation which streches out over 45 acres. Its a sublime blend of formal garden, sweeping terraces, statuary andornamental lakes, rambling walks, a walled garden and over 200 variations of trees and shrubs. Powerscourt is a twenty minute drive away.


Glendalough

Glendalough is the most spectacular and perhaps the best known glen in Wicklow. The valley of the two lakes (Glen da locha), lies in the centre of County Wicklow, a mile west of Laragh, and is famous for its wild beauty, its history and its archaeological sites. History is enshrined in the round tower, the churches, caher and many other ruins around the valley's lakes.
The Visitor's Centre is situated at the entrance to the Valley and contains comprehensive exhibitions on Glendalough, covering history, archaeology, folklore and wildlife. Walk any part of the extensive forest trail, through the woods and along the shores of the lakes, and experience the serenity and beauty of this holy place, or take an ecological tour of the surrounding Wicklow Mountains National Park led by a biologist from the Office of Public Works.
Glendalough is a 5 minute drive from 'Glendale'.


Avoca

The scenic village of Avoca is situated on the banks of the Avoca River. The Irish Names for Avoca, Droichead Nua and Abhainn Mor, indicates a village which has developed at a crossing point on the Avoca River.
It is the location for the popular BBC series, Ballykissangel.
